The Sims 2 Legacy Collection

EA Games has re-released The Sims 2 for Windows 10/11! It seems to be like the original version with all the extension packs. For those who were not able to run Sims 2 on their new computer, this could be a new start, or an invitation for beginners. If you have already purchased and played it, please let us know about your experiences. What about custom content, Body Shop, or Homecrafter?

  1. I've played the legacy collection for roughly 40 hours. It works well and all old cc works in the game! (I scoured your site for many XD) I can't say for bodyshop or homecrafter but the game itself works. It doesn't include the ikea pack but that probably isn't a problem for you?

  4. Thanks for this info. Hopefully EA is going to fix the bugs. I wonder if Bodyshop and Homecrafter work with the new edition.

  5. I've heard nothing but problems with Legacy version. It is very broken.
I run sims 2, from original discs, on Windows 10. It took me months to get this computer set up and running the game. So here are some tips.
    1. Don't get Legacy! I've heard in trying to make it work for Windows they broke some code. It's so bad I doubt that patches will fix that.
    2. Before you install, disable or get rid of OneDrive. It makes it so your game either doesn't work, crashes, or slows down ridiculously. I hear that even people not playing games don't use it because it's such a problem.
    A. I installed before I knew that. There is a fix. You still need to disable it. And ignore every time something says it's not backed up - that is just trying to get you to turn OneDrive back on. Unfortunately, not only my game, but my whole everything for the PC is in a OneDrive folder. Still don't turn OneDrive on. But also don't rename that folder or delete it. I tried moving the game out of that folder, but then it didn't work. Just leave it.
    3. This is by far the best guide I've found for installing and troubles shooting - and I did a lot of that. Save yourself some time and start here:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/sims2help/wiki/index/
    A. I used the discs, I got help from someone for getting past the part where it gets stuck, and then I read that The Ultimate Collection is better and more reliable than the discs. Well I didn't uninstall and do that, but if you're just starting, that might be the best bet. That can be found in the download sims 2 section of the link above - which has massive info on setting up tips.
    B. Do get George, do apply it, do create a shortcut from that, and do run as admin every time - even if you use the discs. Also you don't need the disc after that. Take it out of the drive, because if you don't and forget, you will have to reapply George. Check out the Technical SetUp section for that. Also check out the rest of that section - it has important things like adjusting it to actually take advantage of a computer with more RAM, graphics, and a bigger screen.
    C. Don't ignore the Graphics Marker thing.
    D. Maybe don't get RPC. If you think you want it, read all the comments - there are a lot - and then decide. It does some great things, and changes some things, and messes things up for some people. I chose not to.
    E. The Technical Support section I would only use if you're still having problems. Then go through it one by one. Not everyone has the common problems, and they don't know entirely why. I have never experienced pink soup or the shadow problem.

  6. Part 2 from above
    4. If you experience Pink Soup - exit right away without saving. Restarting your computer might actually solve this. But the section above will help you a lot if it doesn't.
    5. Don't stay plugged in to an external drive while playing the game. I have one for my downloads to not use memory on my computer - and so that I can have only the cc I need without losing all the cc I want for something else. And guess what? If that is still plugged into the computer when I run the game, it crashes not long after starting to play. I didn't have that problem with the XP.
    6. If it isn't working, don't give up. Do some creative searches. There are a few utube videos on how to get George to work. I found the original directions confusing and these helped a lot.
    7. If you installed the discs, absolutely uninstall secuRom. It's free to remove it. I did run it for a long time - on Windows 10 - without removing it. But once I removed it, the load time was about 90% faster. So much faster I think that all that time loading on the XP was due to secuRom - not so much the cc. Not only that, but the game ran better. Lag time pretty much disappeared. It's rare to slow down, even on a big lot.
    8. Play with boolprop on. Sometimes I don't, and then the game crashes, and I'm like, oh yeah... I think it still gets hung up on things like getting an error during a lightning storm. And maybe if I didn't have all this wonderful historical cc, or I wanted to go one by one through hundreds of cc I could resolve it. But it's easier to have boolprop on, and click reset when an error pops up.
    9. Is it worth it? YES! So setting up took forever. But now I can have more cc than I did on the XP. It doesn't crash due to using up all the RAM. (Which is the main problem on both XP and Windows 10. It's a very greedy game.) I probably wouldn't have bothered if my XP hadn't died. But in the end it's better.
    10. Does it still crash. Yes. And from what I've learned watching utube videos of those far more knowledgeable than I, that is to be expected. Examples that were given are if you play the game a long time, or if you leave the game not played but on for a long time.
    11. One more thing...no matter what computer you use, save your lot, then close the game. Apparently save and close at the same time has a chance of something going wrong and could cause corruption. It usually is fine, but on the off chance - just save, then close game.
